Valentine's Your Way

I have always just had it out for Valentine's day. Honestly, for no reason other than it just feels too contrived and commercialized.

I used to think I was just a bitter single lady. Then I dated and experienced the holiday with a significant other, and, yeah, turns out I am just not a fan.

However, I have also come to realize that not everyone holds the same opinion on the holiday as I do (imagine that). I know plenty of people who value it as an opportunity to take intentional time to tell the ones they love how they feel. There's nothing wrong with that in my book, the more opportunities we take to share our appreciation for others, the better.

So here we are, the beginning of February and time to start gearing up for Valentine's Day once again. I am trying to have a more positive approach to the season this year. That's probably good timing for me as well because, you know, I run a small business now. Plus, if Leslie Knope endorses Galentine's Day, then I am 1,000% behind it.

Speaking of which, man did we really outdo ourselves in getting prepped for the season of love this year. We have two stellar gift boxes on our site right now that include our best seller, Lavender Haze syrup, as well as some goodies for a great night in. Because, sure, I'll give Valentine's day a try, but hot dang the lines at restaurants are absolutely unbearable around February 14th.

I am super excited about the candles we picked out for both boxes. The packaging is simple and beautiful and the scents are really nice and mild.

We also picked out two delicious craft chocolate bars from Seattle Chocolate, a brand that seeks to give back to young ladies by helping them develop their skills. Good chocolate with a good mission, yes please!

I don't want to give away too much. You'll have to check out the rest of the contents here.

Anywho, let's get on with it shall we?

For those who choose to spend the day with their significant other or for those who choose to party with the Gals a day early, I thought I'd share a couple of fun recipes we've got in the archives for you to mix up.

First of all, grapefruit. It is in everything these days. And while some may say it's a tad bitter on its own, it is perfect as a mixer. The citrus balances the sweetness of the sugar in the drink really well & this makes for a pretty pink drink. Not the Starbucks kind, though.

Grapefruit Strawberry Collins Cocktail

  • 2 oz Vodka
  • 1 1/2 HipStirs Strawberry Basil syrup
  • 1 1/4 oz lemon juice
  • 4 oz (or top with) grapefruit juice
  • If you're feeling bubbly, go ahead and top with your favorite soda water
  • Garnish with a strawberry or slice of grapefruit

  1. Add vodka, lemon juice, grapefruit juice and strawberry syrup to a shaker tin
  2. Add ice and shake for 6-8 seconds, or until tin is frosted on outside
  3. Fill a Collins glass with ice (crushed if you have it!)
  4. Strain contents of shaker over fresh ice
  5. Top off with soda water
  6. Garnish with strawberries and/or a slice of grapefruit

Secondly, never would I have ever thought of floating red wine in my cocktail. Yet, here we are. For the ultimate heartwarming experience, give this next one a try.

Blackberry Tequila Spritzer

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 1 1/2 oz HipStirs Blackberry Mint syrup
  • 1 1/2 oz lime juice
  • 1 oz Dry red wine to float
  • As always, soda water is an option as a topper here

  1. Add tequila, lime juice, and blackberry syrup to a shaker tin
  2. Add ice and shake for 6-8 seconds, or until tin is frosted on outside
  3. Fill a rocks glass with ice cubes
  4. Strain contents of shaker over fresh ice
  5. Position spoon upside down over glass and slowly pour red wine over spoon into glass
  6. Top off with soda water
  7. Garnish with blackberries

Give this one a try for sure and send me pictures of what you create! As you can see, I still need one for this cocktail.

Whether you are a Valentine's day enthusiast, or look forward to hanging out with the girls, or you just like a good treat yo'self moment, I hope you find this information helpful and a bit entertaining. Even if you don't stumble upon this blog until July, you should still give these yummy cocktails a try.

Remember we have a whole archive of cocktails on our website as well!

As always, wishing you all the best drinking and encouragement to #mixmindfully!
